Francis Magalona (1964-2009)
Let us take this time to salute the man who positively influenced a generation towards a renewed pride for the Philippines and Filipinos.
Famous for his groundbreaking nationalistic rap songs, he embodied faith and hope for the Philippines. His song "Mga Kababayan Ko," I could say, played a special role in my younger years when my self identity was still being molded. He encouraged in me the kind of passionate patriotism that still characterizes me today.
Aside from his music, Francis M. is celebrated for being a good friend, a loving husband, and a cool father. I may not personally know him but for me he is truly an inspiration. His life is worth emulating, the values he has worth imbibing, and the legacy he left worth remembering. Truly, as I losely quote Ms. Mitch Valdes of the man, "His life was short but it was a life well lived."
